Review: Rock House and International Teachers of Pop
Green Door Store & The Hope And Ruin
Shannara and I had a great two-gig Monday night out this week. We started at The Green Door Store for another amazing Rock House night. First up was Spraxa, throwing down some beats and rhymes, then after The Rock House Rap Gang, the very colourful (hair and language) System Experience gave us some White Stripes and Queen covers mixed with their own political punk rock. Angry songs for desperate times! Local pop/rockers Fragile Creatures played a set of finely-crafted originals, reminiscent of Talk Talk and Squeeze in places with new song Heartstrings bringing classic 80s influences that could have been from a lost John Hughes soundtrack. We had to leave before the end as part two of the night was the first show of the first tour from the International Teachers of Pop at The Hope & Ruin. This was a non-stop hour-long dirty disco of throbbing bass and keyboards backed by a live drummer and two exceptional singer/dancers. There was a really fun atmosphere with the singers interacting with the crowd and encouraging everyone to dance. They even did a dance version of Pink Floyd's Another Brick In The Wall sung in German! A huge thanks to promoters One Inch Badge for arranging our guest list places. It's great that they are such good supporters of Gig Buddies and Stay Up Late.
